How Your Footprint is calculated
At Green Hub Online, we ensure full transparency in calculating your household’s carbon footprint. Our method adheres to UK government emission factors to provide accurate estimates.

1️⃣ Electricity & Gas Usage ⚡🔥
Every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity and gas you use produces CO₂ emissions. As of 2024, the UK's electricity generation emitted approximately 124 grams of CO₂ per kWh. The Guardian. For natural gas, the emission factor is about 184 grams of CO₂ per kWh.
2️⃣ Car & Air Travel 🚗✈️
Petrol and diesel cars emit carbon per mile traveled. On average, petrol cars produce 165 grams of CO₂ per kilometer, while diesel cars emit around 170 grams per kilometer. Domestic flights have a larger carbon footprint, averaging 273 grams of CO₂ per passenger per kilometer. Statista
3️⃣ Waste & Water Usage ♻️💧
Non-recycled waste releases methane and CO₂ as it decomposes. Water treatment and distribution also have a carbon footprint. While specific average emission factors for waste and water vary, we account for both in our calculations based on standard UK data.
Once we total your annual CO₂ output, we determine the number of trees needed to absorb your emissions—since one tree absorbs 25 kg of CO₂ per year and it costs our partner NGO £15 to plant a tree. This also covers the protection and nurturing required for the tree to thrive. 🌳
To cover operational costs, certification, and administration, we charge an additional 5% fee on top of the tree-planting cost. This ensures your offsetting is properly documented and contributes directly to verified carbon removal projects. ✅
We offer 1, 3, 5, and 10-year plans with flexible monthly payments, making it easier for you to become carbon neutral. 💚
